How do NET Rankings impact Betting on College Basketball?

A lot of people are stuck in a certain time period. They don’t like change when it comes, and they don’t evolve. If you don’t adjust to the times when betting on sports, you’re going to be stuck in the red.

In the 2018-19 season, the NCAA decided to use a new tool to evaluate college basketball called the NCAA NET Rankings, which replaced the RPI as the main tool for NCAA Tournament selection and seeding.

This tool evaluates the team schedule strength, for beating quality opponents, strong road wins, adjusted net efficiency and more. Not to get too into the weeds, but how does this help me as a player?

When looking at a matchup, you can check several sources that rate each team, including NET Rankings, KenPom and Warren Nolan

Sometimes, if you see that a team is much higher ranked than the other, you get an overvalued line. That’s why you have to take in more than just a higher ranking. How does Team B shoot on the road and Team A shoot at home? Which team is impacted by injuries? How is their three-point defense? Offense? What is their motivation? Are there matchup advantages? Which team is the better rebounding squad?

A team that is ranked between 35 and 55 in the NET at this time of the year is often desperate for a win to improve its standing. Teams that are ranked in the top 10 may just want to keep their ranking or are playing for a number-one seed.

Daily Program Plays

First Game

  • Our side has historically played well at home against our opponent.

  • Our side is an elite team when it comes to taking care of the basketball.

  • Our opponent has defensive issues from the field and the three-point shot.

  • Our side is really good at home and not very good on the road. They’ll be motivated due to the line that is inflated for their opponent.

Second Game

  • Our opponent is playing without one of their top players and they’ve struggled without him.

  • Our side is red-hot and looking to dominate on the road.

  • Our side is shooting just as well at home as they are on the road.

  • Our opponent is a poor three-point shooting team, so they are easier to defend because you can back off some of their shooters.
