Friday, October 16 games

Memphis at Tulane

Friday October 16 | 7:30 PM ET | ESPN | Yulman Stadium, New Orleans | Memphis -6.5 | Total 55.5

Records: Memphis 5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS, 4-2 O/U; Tulane 2-3 SU, 2-3 ATS, 2-3 O/U.

Odds update: The reported total is 55.5, up from 54.0 in the original preview; Memphis remains a 6.5-point favorite. These are reported Thursday prices, not closing lines. [9]

2025 meeting: Tulane beat Memphis 38-32 as a 3.5-point underdog. The game went Over 53.5.

Last games: Memphis beat UAB 38-13 at home October 10 and covered -15.5. Marcus Stokes threw two touchdowns without an interception, allowing the Tigers to win comfortably without a high-volume passing game. Tulane lost 20-17 at Army October 10 but covered +5.5. Kadin Semonza finished 14-of-26 for 158 yards, one touchdown and one interception; Tulane needs more sustained offensive production after another close loss.

QB matchup: Marcus Stokes, Memphis: supplied season line 70.1%, 1,535 passing yards, 16 TD/3 INT, plus 188 rushing yards; latest 11-of-21, 164 yards, 2 TD/0 INT. Kadin Semonza, Tulane: 53.8%, 804 passing yards, 4 TD/2 INT; latest 14-of-26, 158 yards, 1 TD/1 INT. Semonza is the projected matchup, but Will Hall said the quarterback competition remains open; Trace Johnson is another option. That is a performance decision rather than a reported Semonza injury. [10]

Offense/Defense: Memphis offense: 247.0 rushing / 269.7 passing YPG, 38.5 PPG; defense: 176.7 rushing / 203.7 passing YPG, 20.8 PPG allowed. Tulane offense: 152.8 rushing / 180.6 passing YPG, 18.4 PPG; defense: 218.6 rushing / 188.6 passing YPG, 22.6 PPG allowed. Season figures retain the original preview snapshot.

Key injuries and availability: Memphis: no named injuries on the checked public matchup report. Tulane: Kam Hamilton (DL), day-to-day after leaving the Army game in the fourth quarter; Ed Smith IV (DL), day-to-day after missing Army; the coach did not disclose diagnoses. Zycarl Lewis Jr. (WR), questionable, leg; Maurice Turner (RB), questionable, undisclosed; Antwaun Parham (WR), questionable, undisclosed; J. McClure (RB), out, foot, without a return timetable.

Weather: Low 80s in New Orleans, wind around 6.5 mph and a 7% rain chance in the Thursday game forecast.

ATS and totals trends: Memphis: 4-0 ATS in its last four October games; 5-1 Under in its last six after a SU win. Tulane: 6-1 Under in its last seven home games; 6-0 Under in its last six after an ATS win; 1-5-1 ATS in its last seven at home; 0-7-1 ATS in its last eight after an ATS win.  The series has gone Over in four of the last five meetings.

Matchup analysis: Memphis has the clearest statistical route through its running game against a Tulane defense allowing 218.6 rushing yards per game. Tulane must win enough first downs defensively to force longer passing situations and give its own offense manageable field position. Its 18.4 PPG average makes a sustained scoring exchange difficult.

Keys to win: Memphis must exploit the defensive front, protect the ball and convert red-zone possessions into touchdowns. Tulane must limit explosive runs, keep its quarterback out of obvious passing downs and finish its best drives with seven points.

Washington at Purdue

Friday October 16 | 8:00 PM ET | FOX | Ross-Ade Stadium, West Lafayette | Purdue -3.5 | Reported total 50.5-51.5

Records: Washington 3-3 SU, 1-5 ATS, 3-3 O/U; Purdue 3-3 SU, 3-3 ATS, 5-1 O/U.

2025 meeting: Washington beat Purdue 49-13 in Seattle, covering -14.5; the game went Over 50.5.

Last games: Washington lost 41-24 at home to Iowa October 9 and failed to cover -2.5. Elijah Brown supplied 251 passing yards and three touchdowns after Demond Williams Jr. was injured, but Washington could not erase its deficit. Purdue beat Minnesota 41-13 at home October 10 and covered +2.5. Running back Fame Ijeboi led the attack with 195 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries; Ryan Browne added 159 passing yards and a touchdown without an interception.

QB matchup: Projected Elijah Brown versus Ryan Browne. E. Brown: 71.4%, 276 yards, 4 TD/0 INT; he went 28-of-39 for 251 yards and 3 TD/0 INT against Iowa. Ryan Browne: 68.9%, 1,549 yards, 9 TD/1 INT; latest 14-of-24, 159 yards, 1 TD/0 INT. Brown’s productive relief appearance offers Washington a passing route, while Browne’s low interception total supports Purdue’s effort to avoid short fields.

Offense/Defense: Washington offense: 90.3 rushing / 279.5 passing YPG, 26.2 PPG; defense: 136.7 rushing / 193.7 passing YPG, 22.2 PPG allowed. Purdue offense: 160.2 rushing / 338.4 passing YPG, 38.6 PPG; defense: 189.0 rushing / 291.8 passing YPG, 37.6 PPG allowed.

Key injuries and availability: Washington: Demond Williams Jr. (QB), questionable, ribs; Jedd Fisch said he would be surprised if Williams were cleared, with Brown taking first-team reps. Xe’ree Alexander (LB), doubtful. Kai McClendon (DL), Jacob Lane (DE), Jeron Jones (CB), Jack Shaffer (OL) and Justin Hylkema (OL), questionable; diagnoses were not supplied in the availability report. Christian Moss (WR), Jordan Washington (RB), Jayden Limar (RB), Quaid Carr (RB) and C.J. Christian (S), out. Separate listings identify Limar’s upper-body injury and Christian’s Achilles injury. Purdue: Mister Clark (DB) and Joey Tanona (OT), out; Kylan Fox (TE) and Raderrion Daniels (DB), out for the season with knee injuries.

Weather: The updated hourly forecast calls for about 51°F with possible showers near kickoff, cooling toward 49-50°F late.

ATS and totals trends: Washington: 4-1 ATS in its last five after a SU loss. Purdue: 5-0 Over in its last five home games; 7-1 Over in its last eight overall; 4-1 Under in its last five October games; 1-7 ATS in its last eight Friday games; 1-5 ATS in its last six overall. These retain the original trend snapshot.

Matchup analysis: Purdue can test Washington’s injured defensive front with Ijeboi and use that threat to simplify Browne’s reads. The decisive question is whether Purdue can pressure Brown without exposing its secondary. A repeat of Brown’s productive second half would make more than a field goal valuable to Washington; sustained Purdue rushing success would reduce Washington’s possessions and make the road comeback harder.

Keys to win: Washington must protect Brown, manufacture efficient early-down gains and tackle well enough to avoid a repeat of Purdue’s rushing breakout. Purdue must establish Ijeboi, prevent explosive completions and preserve Browne’s ball security.

App State at Coastal Carolina

Friday October 16 | 8:00 PM ET | ESPN2 | Brooks Stadium, Conway | App State -1.5 | Total 48.5

Records: App State 3-2 SU, 3-2 ATS, 2-3 O/U; Coastal Carolina 2-4 SU, 3-3 ATS, 3-3 O/U.

2025 meeting: Coastal Carolina won 45-37 at App State as a 10.5-point underdog. The game went Over 48.5.

Last games: App State lost 10-3 at home to Old Dominion October 10 and did not cover -8.5. Malachi Singleton finished 5-of-23 for 72 yards and an interception before an ankle injury complicated the quarterback outlook; Henry Hasselbeck went 2-of-4 for minus-six yards and an interception. Coastal won 27-21 at Marshall October 10 and covered +4.5. Deuce Bailey threw for only 73 yards, but Dominic Lee-Knicely carried 25 times for 169 yards and a touchdown, adding 42 receiving yards.

QB matchup: Malachi Singleton or Henry Hasselbeck versus Deuce Bailey. Singleton’s supplied season line: 65.2%, 1,278 passing yards, 7 TD/2 INT. Bailey: 53.8%, 1,340 yards, 13 TD/3 INT, plus 192 rushing yards; latest 8-of-18, 73 yards, 1 TD/1 INT. Hasselbeck’s four attempts against Old Dominion provide very little basis for projecting a full start. Singleton’s availability and mobility are separate questions even if he dresses.

Offense/Defense: App State offense: 134.2 rushing / 268.6 passing YPG, 28.4 PPG; defense: 137.6 rushing / 197.8 passing YPG, 19.8 PPG allowed. Coastal Carolina offense: 149.0 rushing / 224.3 passing YPG, 25.2 PPG; defense: 189.7 rushing / 213.7 passing YPG, 24.3 PPG allowed.

Key injuries and availability: App State: Malachi Singleton (QB), ankle; Hasselbeck is the expected replacement if needed. Treyaun Webb (RB), out, undisclosed; Alexander Sanchez (WR), Chris Lofton (WR) and Dillon Galloway (TE), questionable, undisclosed. Coastal: Colton Hinton (WR), Goldie Lawrence (WR) and Zach Courtney (TE), questionable, undisclosed.

Weather: The updated Conway hourly forecast calls for mostly clear skies around 76°F at kickoff, easing toward 72°F late. The original stadium forecast had light wind near 6.5 mph, gusts around 14 mph and a 4% rain chance.

ATS and totals trends: The underdog is 5-0 ATS in the last five series meetings. App State: 1-5 ATS in its last six conference games; 6-1 Under in its last seven after a SU loss; 6-1 Over in its last seven conference games. Coastal: 5-1 Over in its last six home games; 4-1 ATS in its last five October games. These retain the supplied trend snapshot. App State’s opposing totals trends describe different situations, so quarterback availability is more actionable than either trend alone.

Matchup analysis: App State’s defense has the stronger supplied scoring profile, allowing 19.8 PPG, but the offense must recover from a three-point performance. Coastal’s 189.7 rushing yards allowed per game gives the Mountaineers a route to protect Hasselbeck or a limited Singleton with a run-led plan. Coastal will try to reproduce its Marshall formula through Lee-Knicely rather than ask Bailey to win entirely through the air. If App State forces longer passing downs, its defensive advantage becomes more useful.

Saturday College Football Betting Previews

Georgia State at James Madison

12:00 PM ET | ESPNU | James Madison -12.5 | Total 58.0

Records: Georgia State: 4-1 SU, 5-0 ATS, 3-2 O/U; James Madison: 6-0 SU, 5-1 ATS, 3-3 O/U.

2025 meeting: James Madison beat Georgia State 14 – 7 (GSU 20.5, total 52.5).

Last games: Georgia State beat Old Dominion 42 – 10 (home, Oct 03, 2026); covered -1.5; James Madison beat Georgia Southern 27 – 24 (away, Oct 10, 2026); did not cover -7.5.

QBs: Cameran Brown: season 67.9%, 1,157 yards, 12 TD/4 INT; 112 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD; latest 14/20, 284 yards, 6 TD/0 INT; Camden Coleman: season 62.3%, 1,150 yards, 11 TD/1 INT; latest 16/27, 171 yards, 1 TD/0 INT.

Offense/Defense: Georgia State: offense 209.6 rushing / 259.0 passing YPG, 39.4 PPG; defense 127.0 rushing /174.0 passing YPG, 19.0 PPG allowed. James Madison: offense 219.3 rushing / 232.7 passing YPG, 41.8 PPG; defense 102.0 rushing / 245.0 passing YPG, 15.0 PPG allowed.

Key injuries and availability: Georgia State: none listed. James Madison: Z. Collins (WR): Questionable – Undisclosed.

Weather: 50.0°F, sunny, wind 11.4 mph, gusts 18.6 mph, rain chance 1%.

Trends: Geo State is: 1)6-0 ATS over last 6. 2)6-0 ATS last 6 overall. 3)4-0 Over last after an ATS loss. 4)8-2 Over last 10 after an ATS win. 5)2-6 ATS last 8 conference. JMU is: 1)4-0 Over last 4 after an ATS loss.

Matchup analysis: JMU’s 219.3 rushing yards per game run into a Georgia State front allowing 127.0, making early-down efficiency the first test. Georgia State has a more inviting passing route against a defense allowing 245.0 passing yards per game. If the Panthers protect well and finish drives with touchdowns, they can make the favorite defend the full field.

Florida Atlantic at Army
12:00 PM ET | CBSSN | Army -2.5 |
Total 56.0
Records: FAU 4-1 SU, 4-1 ATS, 4-1 O/U; ARMY 3-2 SU, 2-3 ATS, 3-2 O/U.

Weather: 44.8°F, sunny, W 17.7 mph, G 31.8 mph, rain 19%.

Trends: FAU is: 1)4-0 ATS over last 4. 2)4-0 ATS last 4 after a SU win. Army is: 1)4-1 Over last 5 home. 2)4-1Under last 5 in October. 3)0-3-1 ATS last 4 overall.

Ball State at Bowling Green

12:00 PM ET | ESPN+ | Bowling Green -6.5 | Total 45.0

Records: BST 1-5 SU, 3-3 ATS, 5-1 O/U; BG 2-4 SU, 3-3 ATS, 4-2 O/U.

Last games: Ball State lost to Northwestern 45-14 (away, Oct 10); covered 34.5; Bowling Green beat Sacramento State 38 – 10 (home, Oct 10); covered -9.5.

QBs: Keldric Luster: 64.4%, 871 yd, 6/4 TD/INT; last 27/41, 209 yd, 1/1 TD/INT; Jay Kastantin: 65.7%, 986 yd, 5/3 TD/INT; last 11/15, 116 yd, 1/1 TD/INT.

Offense/Defense: Ball State: Offense 117.8 rush/190.2 pass YPG, 18.3 PPG; Defense 218.8 rush/248.5 pass YPG, 39.0 PPG allowed; Bowling Green: Offense 107.3 rush/167.7 pass YPG, 15.8 PPG; Defense 204.5 rush/175.2 pass YPG, 29.2 PPG allowed.

Key injuries and availability: Ball State: C. Breveard (RB): Questionable – Undisclosed; J. Bonds (RB): Questionable – Undisclosed; I. Thacker (WR): Out – Undisclosed. Bowling Green: I. Dawson (WR): Out – Undisclosed; K. Baldwin (RB):Questionable – Undisclosed; A. Clay (WR): Out – Undisclosed.

Weather: 41.5°F, sunny, W 12.5 mph, G 16.8 mph, rain 1%.

Trends: Ball State is: 1)Road team is 5-0 ATS over last 5 matchups. 2)9-2 ATS last 11 after a SU loss. 3)1-5 ATS last 6 after an ATS win. 4)1-4 ATS last 5 road. 5)7-1 Over last 8 overall. BG is: 1)6-1 Over last 7 after a SU win of >20 points.

Matchup analysis: Neither offense has been consistently productive, but both defenses offer a possible rushing opening: Ball State allows 218.8 rushing yards per game and Bowling Green allows 204.5. The Falcons should test that weakness before asking their passing game to carry the matchup. Ball State’s route to an upset is to sustain possessions, protect the ball and make Bowling Green earn points over long fields. The key totals question is whether vulnerable run defenses outweigh the offenses’ low scoring averages.

Northwestern at Michigan State

12:00 PM ET | Peacock | Northwestern -7.5 | Total 48.5

Records: NW 4-1 SU, 4-1 ATS, 4-1 O/U; MSU 2-4 SU, 4-2 ATS, 2-4 O/U.

Last games: Northwestern beat Ball State 45 – 14 (home, Oct 10); did not cover -34.5; Michigan State lost to Illinois 37 – 38 (home, Oct 10); covered 2.5.

QBs: Aidan Chiles: 71.4%, 1,172 yd, 9/0 TD/INT; last 17/23, 272 yd, 3/0 TD/INT; Alessio Milivojevic: 65.8%, 1,047 yd, 5/3 TD/INT; last 22/26, 196 yd, 2/0 TD/INT.

Offense/Defense: Northwestern: Offense 203.0 rush/234.4 pass YPG, 35.4 PPG; Defense 147.2 rush/233.4 pass YPG, 16.2 PPG allowed; Michigan State: Offense 124.2 rush/187.5 pass YPG, 21.3 PPG; Defense 141.8 rush/197.8 pass YPG, 25.7 PPG allowed.

Key injuries and availability: Northwestern: B. Turner (CB): Questionable – Undisclosed; J. Fussell (CB): Out – Undisclosed; C. Farrell (WR): Questionable – Undisclosed. Michigan State: C. Fancher (QB): Questionable – Knee; C. Edwards (RB): Questionable – Knee; C. Wheatland (LB): Questionable – Undisclosed.

Weather: 40.8°F, sunny, W 11.4 mph, G 17.7 mph, rain 1%.

Trends: NW is: 1)8-1-2 ATS last 11 after a SU win. 2)5-0 Over last 5 overall. 3)8-1-2 ATS last 11 after a SU win. MSU is: 1)6-17 ATS last 23 home.

Matchup analysis: Northwestern brings the stronger scoring profile, averaging 35.4 points and allowing 16.2, but Michigan State’s 141.8 rushing yards allowed per game make this more than a simple offensive comparison. The Spartans need to limit Northwestern’s 203.0-yard rushing attack, force longer passing downs and finish their own possessions.

Ohio State at Indiana

12:00 PM ET | FOX | Ohio State -3.5 | Total 50.5

Records: OSU 5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS, 4-2 O/U; IND 6-0 SU, 1-5 ATS, 3-3 O/U.

2025 meeting: Indiana beat Ohio State 13 – 10 (IU 3.5, total 45.5).

Last games: Ohio State beat Maryland 45 – 16 (home, Oct 10); did not cover -31.5; Indiana beat Nebraska 20 – 17 (away, Oct 10); did not cover -8.5.

QBs: Julian Sayin: 71.2%, 1,772 yd, 17/2 TD/INT; last 13/21, 242 yd, 4/1 TD/INT; Josh Hoover: 68.2%, 1,364 yd, 17/0 TD/INT; last 12/22, 263 yd, 2/0 TD/INT.

Offense/Defense: Ohio State: Offense 165.7 rush/337.8 pass YPG, 42.7 PPG; Defense 96.2 rush/150.7 pass YPG, 13.2 PPG allowed; Indiana: Offense 221.3 rush/241.3 pass YPG, 40.2 PPG; Defense 75.0 rush/188.3 pass YPG, 11.8 PPG allowed.

Key injuries and availability: Ohio State: L. Bey (RB): Questionable – Undisclosed; A. Valerio-Hudson (WR): Questionable – Undisclosed; T. Rogers (RB): Questionable – Undisclosed. Indiana: none listed.

Weather: 48.7°F, sunny, W 10.7 mph, G 15.7 mph, rain 1%.

Trends: OSU is: 1)9-1 ATS last 10 road. 2)7-0 Under last 7 road. Ind is: 1)0-5 ATS last 5 home. 2)1-6 ATS last 7 overall.

Matchup analysis: This is a strength-on-strength matchup. Ohio State’s 337.8 passing yards per game meet an Indiana defense allowing 188.3 through the air and just 75.0 on the ground. Indiana should make Sayin earn sustained drives rather than surrender explosive throws. Going the other way, the Hoosiers’ 221.3-yard rushing attack must prevent Ohio State’s defense from dictating obvious passing situations.

Virginia at SMU

12:00 PM ET | CW | SMU -8.5 | Total 52.0

Records: UVA 4-2 SU, 3-3 ATS, 3-3 O/U; SMU 4-1 SU, 2-3 ATS, 2-3 O/U.

Last games: Virginia beat Syracuse 28 – 25 (home, Oct 10); did not cover -14.5; SMU beat Boston College 25 – 16 (home, Oct 03); did not cover -21.5.

QBs: Beau Pribula: 66.4%, 1,080 yd, 13/1 TD/INT; last 11/19, 119 yd, 1/0 TD/INT; Kevin Jennings: 75.0%, 1,588 yd, 14/5 TD/INT; last 20/30, 160 yd, 2/0 TD/INT.

Offense/Defense: Virginia: Offense 162.8 rush/217.5 pass YPG, 32.8 PPG; Defense 151.8 rush/161.8 pass YPG, 19.2 PPG allowed; SMU: Offense 138.2 rush/341.0 pass YPG, 34.6 PPG; Defense 141.6 rush/170.4 pass YPG, 23.0 PPG allowed.

Key injuries and availability: Virginia: R. Flores Jr. (WR): Questionable – Undisclosed; P. Lewis (RB): Questionable – Undisclosed; T. Ward (WR): Questionable – Undisclosed. SMU: Y. Knight (WR): Questionable – Undisclosed; Y. Smith (WR): Questionable – Undisclosed;

Weather: 59.7°F, overcast, W 8.7 mph, G 11.2 mph, rain 4%.

Trends: UVA is: 1)0-4 ATS last 4 in October. 2)4-1 ATS last 5 after an ATS loss. 3)9-1 Under last 10 conference. 4)6-0 Under last 6 road. SMU is: 1)7-1 Under last 8 home. 2)10-1 Under last 11 after an ATS loss. 3)3-7 ATS last 10 after an ATS loss.

Matchup analysis: SMU’s 341.0 passing yards per game face a Virginia defense allowing only 161.8. Jennings needs efficient early completions to prevent the Cavaliers from controlling the terms of the game. Virginia’s best response is a balanced attack that extends drives and limits SMU’s possessions. Pribula’s supplied 13-to-1 touchdown/interception ratio supports that approach if his protection holds.

Pittsburgh at Boston College

12:00 PM ET | ESPN2 | Pittsburgh -6.5 | Total 44.0

Records: PITT 5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS, 2-4 O/U; BC 2-3 SU, 3-2 ATS, 0-5 O/U.

2025 meeting: Pittsburgh beat Boston College 48 – 7 (PITT -6.5, total 54.5).

Last games: Pittsburgh lost to North Carolina 17 – 21 (home, Oct 10); did not cover -3.5; Boston College lost to SMU 16 – 25 (away, Oct 03); covered 21.5.

QBs: Holden Geriner: 65.7%, 438 yd, 2/2 TD/INT; last 27/44, 219 yd, 0/2 TD/INT; Mason McKenzie: 58.3%, 967 yd, 5/5 TD/INT; 437 rush yd, 3 rush TD; last 20/31, 208 yd, 2/0 TD/INT. Geriner replaces Heintschel, whose torn ACL is season-ending.

Offense/Defense: Pittsburgh: Offense 160.0 rush/299.8 pass YPG, 34.8 PPG; Defense 49.7 rush/241.3 pass YPG, 14.7 PPG allowed; Boston College: Offense 153.0 rush/193.4 pass YPG, 19.0 PPG; Defense 151.6 rush/164.6 pass YPG, 23.4 PPG allowed.

Key injuries and availability: Pittsburgh: M. Heintschel (QB): Out for season – torn ACL (team confirmed); M. Knight (WR): Out -Undisclosed; M. Hunt (TE): Questionable – Undisclosed. Boston College: B. MacCormack III (RB): Out – Shoulder; B. Clough (TE): Out – Undisclosed.

Injury impact: Heintschel’s season-ending ACL injury is the central personnel issue. Knight’s absence and Hunt’s questionable tag further affect Pitt’s available targets. BC’s listed losses at running back and tight end can reduce both protection flexibility and its options against Pitt’s front.

Weather: 48.4°F, patchy rain nearby, W 15.2 mph, G 27.3 mph, rain 10%.

Trends: Home team is 4-0 ATS over last 4 matchups. Pitt is: 1)2-5 ATS last 7 after a SU loss. 2)4-1 Under last 5 overall. BC is: 1)4-0 ATS last 4 conference. 2)4-0 ATS last 4 after a SU loss. 3)6-0 Under last 6 overall.

Matchup analysis: Pitt’s defense allows just 49.7 rushing yards per game, putting pressure on Boston College to create offense through McKenzie’s legs, designed movement and timely passes. Pitt should make BC drive the field without conceding scramble plays. The Panthers’ own offense is a separate concern after the quarterback change: Geriner’s latest two-interception outing means a 299.8-yard team passing average cannot be assumed to describe the current unit. BC needs takeaways and short fields; Pitt needs a manageable game for its replacement quarterback.

Cincinnati at West Virginia

12:00 PM ET | TNT | West Virginia -2.5 | Total 63.5

Records: CIN 4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS, 3-2 O/U; WV 3-3 SU, 2-4 ATS, 6-0 O/U.

Weather: 44.8°F, sunny, W 13.9 mph, G 22.8 mph, rain 5%.

Trends: Cincinnati: 1)3-7 ATS over latest 10 listed. 2)5-1 Over last 6 road. 3)1-5 ATS last 6 conference. West Va: 1)5-0 Over last 5 overall. 2)6-1 Over last 7 in October.

Matchup analysis: The rushing matchup will shape the game, with Cincinnati averaging 230.8 yards on the ground and West Virginia 295.5. Cincinnati can also attack a Mountaineer defense allowing 297.0 passing yards per game, provided French does not force throws after his team’s recent loss. West Virginia needs Hawkins’ running threat to create favorable numbers and keep Cincinnati from keying on conventional handoffs.

Kansas at Kansas State

Trends: KU is: 1)9-1 ATS last 10 after allowing >200 rush yd. 2)4-1 Over last 5 overall. KState is: 1)2-7 ATS last 9 after an ATS loss. 2)1-5 ATS last 6 conference. 3)5-1-1 ATS last 7 after a DD loss at home.

Matchup analysis: Both teams average more than 214 rushing yards per game, but Kansas State’s defense allows just 133.4 passing yards per game. Kansas needs early-down rushing success to avoid repeatedly testing that coverage on predictable third downs.

Mississippi State at LSU

12:00 PM ET | ESPN | LSU -12.5 | Total 59.0

Records: MST 4-1 SU, 4-1 ATS, 3-2 O/U; LSU 4-2 SU, 2-4 ATS, 4-2 O/U.

Trends: MST is 1)4-1 ATS over last 5. 2)9-2 ATS last 11 road. LSU is: 1)4-0 Over last 4 in October. 2)5-1 Under last 6 conference. 3)0-4 ATS last 4 in October. 4)2-8 ATS last 10 after a SU loss.

Matchup analysis: Mississippi State’s 309.2 passing yards per game give it an avenue to compete, but LSU’s defense allows just 74.5 rushing yards per game. If the Bulldogs become one-dimensional, Taylor will face a harder protection and decision-making test. LSU can attack Mississippi State’s 260.0 passing yards allowed while using its own 213.8-yard rushing average to stay balanced. Leavitt’s supplied eight interceptions are the underdog’s most obvious opening: takeaways and short fields could keep a strong LSU offense from controlling the scoreboard.

Weather: 52.9°F, sunny, W 17.0 mph, G 32.7 mph, rain 1%.

Trends: Rut is: 1)8-2 ATS last 10 after an ATS loss. 2)5-1 ATS last 6 after SU loss. Maryland: 1)3-7 ATS over latest 10. 2)5-0 Over last 5 after a SU loss. 3)1-7 ATS last 8 conference. 4)1-7 ATS last 8 after a SU loss.

Matchup analysis: Rutgers’ defense has allowed 249.0 rushing yards and 40.3 points per game, giving Maryland a clear reason to establish the run even with a modest rushing average of its own. Rutgers can answer through a passing offense averaging 326.0 yards, but its current quarterback configuration matters more than the team average. Maryland needs efficient quarterback play after Washington’s latest low-output game.

Charlotte at Temple

Matchup analysis: Temple’s 201.8 rushing yards per game are the cleanest offensive advantage against a Charlotte defense allowing 42.2 points per game.

UMass at Buffalo

Matchup analysis: UMass’ defense, allowing 18.2 points per game, is the strongest unit in this matchup on the supplied numbers. Buffalo needs its rushing attack to keep Wright out of repeated long-yardage passing situations. UMass can challenge a Buffalo defense allowing 239.5 passing yards per game.

Western Michigan at Central Michigan

Matchup analysis: Central Michigan averages only 96.3 passing yards per game, making its 188.7-yard rushing attack the obvious focal point for Western Michigan’s defense. The Broncos should crowd early-down rushing lanes without allowing play-action throws behind them. Western Michigan’s more balanced offense can attack a CMU defense allowing 177.7 rushing yards per game.

North Carolina at Duke

Matchup analysis: Duke’s 226.6 rushing yards per game contrast sharply with North Carolina’s 112.4, and the Blue Devils allow only 84.0 rushing yards per game. North Carolina therefore needs an efficient passing plan to stay ahead of the chains and avoid handing Duke repeated short possessions.

Matchup analysis: Texas Tech’s defense allows 91.4 rushing yards per game, so Arizona State may need to attack the more vulnerable pass defense, which allows 262.2.  est Arizona State’s 27.8 points allowed per game.

UNLV at Air Force

Matchup analysis: Air Force’s 325.6 rushing yards per game make assignment discipline the central issue for UNLV. The Rebels need to win early downs and force the Falcons into passing situations without allowing quarterback keepers or perimeter runs to turn into explosives. Air Force’s defense gives up only 17.4 points per game, so UNLV must protect scoring opportunities.
