However, this is a great week to make a profit, as most mid-majors begin a journey that is much more important than the P5 guys. Why? Because most teams are from one-bid leagues. You have to win the conference tournament or if you’ve garnered enough success, you’re headed to a consolation postseason tournament like the NIT or CBI.

The Horizon League Tournament begins tonight and the favorite is Wright State (+200 on DK), while Robert Morris (+280) and Oakland (+425) are right behind. 

Why should I bet on these mid-major tournaments?

• The sense of urgency is for every team, while some of the “high majors” are already locked in and may not have that same effort and motivation.
  
  
• The lines are softer than the power conferences.
  
  
• There are better opportunities for informed bettors. Injuries are rarely discussed or mentioned on injury reports for the mid-major conferences. But if you do some digging by looking at GP (Games played), for the top players, you’ll figure out who is injured and who is not.
  
  
• The higher seeds usually get byes, so they get an advantage of playing fewer games, where the lower seeds usually have to play 3 or 4 games in 3 or 4 staight night. Having quality depth is a must in these situations.
