2026-27 NHL Futures Bets Predictions

Predictions for 2026-27 NHL award futures

The NHL drops the puck tonight on Tuesday and in this extra-long 84-game season. We’re going to take a look at some of the awards and predictions for this season. Here is our blog on the Baseball Playoffs Betting Predictions.

Hart Trophy — MVP: This isn’t simply the player with the most goals or points. It’s awarded to the player judged most valuable to his team during the regular season.

Vezina Trophy — Best Goaltender: Goes to the NHL’s top goalie. Wins matter, but voters can also look closely at save percentage, goals-against average, shutouts, workload and the overall quality of the goaltender’s season. Unlike most major awards, the Vezina is voted on by the NHL’s general managers.

Norris Trophy — Best Defenseman: Awarded to the defenseman who demonstrates the greatest all-around ability at the position. Offensive production gets considerable attention, but defensive performance, puck possession, minutes, special teams and overall impact can matter too.

Selke Trophy — Best Defensive Forward:  Defensive responsibility is central. Matchups against top opponents, penalty killing, faceoffs, takeaways and overall two-way effectiveness can help shape the vote.

Calder Trophy — Rookie of the Year: Goes to the NHL’s top rookie.  Players must satisfy the NHL’s rookie-eligibility rules.

Art Ross Trophy — Most Points: This one is different because there’s essentially no subjective voting. Whoever finishes the regular season with the most combined goals + assists wins the Art Ross.

Rocket Richard Trophy — Most Goals: Also straightforward: the player who scores the most regular-season goals wins.

Jack Adams Award — Coach of the Year: Awarded to the coach judged to have contributed most to his team’s success. A coach whose team substantially exceeds expectations can attract considerable support.

Conn Smythe Trophy — Playoff MVP: This is important because it’s based on the entire Stanley Cup playoffs, not the regular season. The winner also does not technically have to play for the Stanley Cup champion. Goalies can be particularly important candidates because a dominant postseason goalie can dramatically affect a playoff run.

ATS’ 2026 MLB Playoffs Betting Preview

The MLB Playoffs begin on Tuesday with four games in the Wild Card round. Let’s take a look at each series, where the winner needs to take two of three games.

World Series Odds

(from Draft Kings)

LA Dodgers +200

Milwaukee +600

Tampa Bay +800

NY Yankees +850

Cleveland +1200

Boston +1500

Atlanta +1500

Chicago Cubs +1700

San Diego +2000

Philadelphia +2000

Houston +2500

Chi White Sox +4000

2026 MLB Postseason Preview: All 12 Teams and the Wild Card Matchups

Tampa Bay, Cleveland, Milwaukee and the Los Angeles Dodgers have byes; the other eight teams have at most three games to keep their seasons alive.

That short format makes starting pitching, bullpen availability and lineup health especially important. Here is a look at every team still playing.

American League Wild Card Series

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees

Game 1: Tuesday, 8 p.m. ET

The Yankees won seven of 13 meetings with Boston this season and will host the entire series. Their pitching staff and home-run power give them a strong foundation, but Aaron Judge’s health is the question that could change the matchup most. He missed much of the summer with a rib injury and dealt with a calf issue after returning. New York needs to know how much he can contribute, not simply whether his name is in the lineup.

Boston took a very different route to October. After a 2–8 start and a managerial change, the Red Sox surged in the second half to secure a return trip to the Bronx. Their pitching gives them a chance to keep games close, even if the offense has a quiet night.

Series Odds: NY Yankees -170

Boston +140

(Boston appears to be a nice dog here having won five of the last 8 in this series).

Chicago White Sox at Houston Astros

Game 1: Tuesday, 5 p.m. ET

Houston won the AL West at 81–81 and took five of seven games from Chicago. Yordan Alvarez is its biggest offensive threat, while Josh Hader gives the Astros a late-inning option if they can get him a lead.

The White Sox have one of the postseason’s best turnaround stories after consecutive 100-loss seasons. They finished with a better record and run differential than Houston, but their young lineup faces a difficult assignment on the road. Munetaka Murakami and Colson Montgomery have game-changing power; both also struggled to hit consistently down the stretch.

What to watch: Chicago must create runs before Houston can turn the game over to its late relievers. The contrast between the White Sox’s stronger season-long run differential and the Astros’ head-to-head and home-field advantages makes this series more interesting than the seeds suggest. The winner faces Cleveland.

Series Odds:

Houston -145

Chicago White Sox +125

(Talk about mediocrity. Houston took 7 of the last 9 in this series. Both teams were able to just get make the playoffs but the White Sox had the better record and the better bet at $1108. Still a great story win or lose).

National League Wild Card Series

Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves

Game 1: Tuesday, 2 p.m. ET

Atlanta won the NL East and went 9–4 against Philadelphia during the regular season. Chris Sale is positioned to lead its rotation after another excellent year, while Ronald Acuña Jr. and Matt Olson supply the lineup’s star power.

Philadelphia clinched the final NL spot on the last day, but doing so complicated its pitching plans. Zack Wheeler worked six innings in the regular-season finale. Jesús Luzardo had only just returned from a shoulder issue, and Cristopher Sánchez will not be on full rest until Wednesday. The Phillies also need more from a bullpen that struggled in September.

Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber can change a game with one swing. For this particular series, though, Philadelphia’s pitching schedule may be as consequential as its offense.

What to watch: Atlanta has the clearer Game 1 pitching setup. Philadelphia has beaten the Braves in previous October meetings, but its current starter availability and bullpen form are more useful measures for this series. The winner advances to face the Dodgers.

Series Odds:

Atlanta -125

Philadelphia +105

(Two NL East rivals meet. Atlanta has won 6 of the last 10 in this series. Have to give them the avantage).

Chicago Cubs at San Diego Padres

Game 1: Tuesday, 10 p.m. ET

This is a rematch of the Cubs’ three-game Wild Card victory over San Diego last year. Chicago also won five of six regular-season meetings in 2026. Its offense led the majors in OPS, with Pete Crow-Armstrong supplying a rare mix of power, speed and center-field defense.

San Diego earned home field with a strong finish. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill give the Padres impact bats, and Michael King is lined up for Game 1. Their greatest potential advantage may come late: if the starters hand a lead to the bullpen, San Diego can call on Adrian Morejon and Mason Miller.

What to watch: Chicago’s lineup against the Padres’ starters is the central contest. First-five-inning and full-game prices may point in different directions if San Diego’s bullpen has a sizable edge. The winner moves on to Milwaukee.

Series Odds

San Diego -120

Ch Cubs +100

(The Cubs have the best player in Crow-Armstrong but Chicago’s pitching wores are worrisome. )

The Four Teams With Byes

Tampa Bay Rays — AL No. 1 seed: Tampa Bay won 98 games behind a roster led by Junior Caminero, Drew Rasmussen and Yandy Díaz. The Rays await the Yankees–Red Sox winner. Their strong home record matters, but so will keeping the rotation sharp during the layoff.

Cleveland Guardians — AL No. 2 seed: Cleveland rallied from a losing record in August to win the AL Central. José Ramírez remains the lineup’s focal point, with Parker Messick and Cade Smith among its important arms. The Guardians await Houston or Chicago. Their seed is strong, but their narrow run differential suggests the eventual matchup deserves a close look.

Milwaukee Brewers — NL No. 1 seed: Milwaukee finished with the best record in baseball at 103–59. Jacob Misiorowski, Brice Turang and Jackson Chourio lead a balanced club that also compiled an excellent home record. The Brewers will host the Padres–Cubs winner.

Los Angeles Dodgers — NL No. 2 seed: The two-time defending champions won 100 games and enter with Shohei Ohtani, Tarik Skubal and Yoshinobu Yamamoto among their headline talents. They await Atlanta or Philadelphia. The bye helps set their rotation, while the final health and workload plan will determine just how strong that advantage is.

The Betting Approach

A three-game series can turn on one starting-pitcher decision or one overworked bullpen. Confirm the starters, lineups and available relievers before using a regular-season trend to assess a postseason game. Then compare the matchup with the price being offered: the team most likely to win is not automatically the best bet.

Don’t Chase Last Week’s Winners

Don’t Chase Last Week’s Winners

One of the biggest mistakes a bettor can make in football is assuming that what happened last week will happen again this week.

By Week 5 in college football and Week 4 in the NFL, the public has seen enough football to start forming strong opinions. Teams that looked dominant suddenly become popular favorites. Teams that were embarrassed get written off. Quarterbacks who threw four touchdowns get upgraded quickly. Defenses that gave up 35 points are treated as if they are permanently broken.

That is exactly when value can start disappearing.

The goal in handicapping is not to identify which team looked best last Saturday or Sunday. The goal is to determine whether this week’s point spread accurately reflects what should happen in the next game.

The Market Adjusts Quickly

Sportsbooks know what everyone just watched.

If a team wins by 30 points in a nationally televised game, the next line is rarely posted as if nothing happened. The market adjusts.

That adjustment may be justified—but sometimes it goes too far.

Suppose a college team was -7 last week and won 42-10. If that performance causes the same team to be priced several points higher than your power ratings would normally justify the following week, you may actually be getting more value on the opponent.

Final Scores Can Be Deceptive

A 35-14 victory does not always mean one team dominated from start to finish.

The score may have been influenced by:

  • Defensive touchdowns
  • Short fields following turnovers
  • Special-teams scores
  • Missed field goals
  • Fourth-down failures
  • Garbage-time touchdowns
  • Red-zone variance
  • A quarterback leaving early with an injury
  • That is why serious handicappers should go beyond the scoreboard.

Look at:

  • Yards per play
  • Rushing efficiency
  • Sack rate
  • Pressure rate
  • Explosive plays
  • Third-down opportunities
  • Red-zone trips
  • Turnovers
  • Time and score situation

How long the starters actually played

A team can win by three touchdowns and still play worse than the final score suggests.

Another team can lose by 10 while actually winning the yardage and efficiency battle.

Those are often the situations where the following week’s betting value develops.

Don’t Automatically Downgrade Last Week’s Loser

The opposite mistake is just as common.

A team gets embarrassed, bettors want nothing to do with it, and the market moves against it.

Sometimes that reaction is correct. If the offensive line was overwhelmed, the quarterback looked incapable of handling pressure and the defense could not generate any resistance, those may be structural problems.

But other poor performances are much more correctable.

There is a major difference between losing because of:

  • Four turnovers
  • A blocked punt
  • Missed kicks
  • Dropped passes
  • A tipped interception
  • A handful of explosive plays
  • and losing because you were physically dominated on nearly every snap.
  • The first group can produce a good buy-low opportunity.
  • The second may represent a real downgrade.

College Football: Be Careful With Blowout Winners

This becomes especially important in college football.

College teams can produce enormous margins against inferior competition. A 52-7 final score catches everyone’s attention, but handicappers have to ask whether that performance tells us anything useful about how the team will perform against a much better conference opponent.

A ranked favorite might have spent two weeks facing weak competition and suddenly be asked to lay 17 points on the road in a conference game.

That is an entirely different assignment.

Conference play changes the handicap because:

  • Opponents are more familiar with personnel and schemes
  • Coaching staffs often have years of film on each other
  • Rivalry intensity can reduce talent gaps
  • Road environments become more difficult
  • Depth advantages can matter less in shorter-possession games
  • A large favorite may be satisfied simply controlling the game rather than running up the score
  • That doesn’t mean blindly betting conference underdogs. It means requiring the favorite to justify the inflated price.

NFL: One Great Game Can Distort Perception

In the NFL, the effect can be even stronger because there are fewer games and every result receives enormous attention.

  • A team that looked awful in Week 1 may suddenly look like a contender after two wins.
  • A team that started 2-0 can be labeled overrated after one bad Sunday.
  • Three games are useful—but they are still only three games.

At this stage of the season,  combine:

Preseason evaluation + current performance + injuries + matchup + price

rather than discarding everything we believed in August.

The key is determining which preseason assumptions were wrong and which teams simply experienced short-term variance.

Pay Attention to How the Win Happened

Not all wins should produce the same power-rating adjustment.

A team that wins 28-17 while gaining 450 yards and allowing only 250 probably deserves a meaningful upgrade.

A team that wins 28-17 despite being outgained 430-290 because it returned two interceptions for touchdowns probably deserves a much smaller adjustment.

Those two games look identical in the standings.

They should not look identical in your handicap.

Injuries Can Completely Change the Meaning of Last Week

Last week’s result may also have very little relevance if the personnel situation has changed.

If a team dominated behind a healthy offensive line but loses its left tackle and center during the week, that previous offensive performance becomes much less useful.

The same applies to:

  • Quarterbacks
  • Starting cornerbacks
  • Pass rushers
  • Running backs
  • Wide receivers
  • Interior defensive linemen

This is why injury evaluation should come before blindly extending last week’s performance into the next game.

The Best Bet May Be No Bet

This is another important part of not chasing winners.

You do not have to wager on a team simply because it looked impressive. And you do not have to fade it simply because you believe the line is inflated.

Sometimes the market adjusts perfectly.

If your number and the sportsbook’s number are basically the same, move to the next game.

A disciplined handicapper should be comfortable saying:

“They may win again. I just don’t have value at this price.”

That sentence can save a lot of money over the course of a season.

The Bottom Line

The scoreboard tells you what happened. The betting line asks you what happens next.

Those are two different questions. The most successful approach entering College Football Week 5 and NFL Week 4 is to avoid automatically rewarding last week’s winners or punishing last week’s losers.

  • Study how the result happened.
  • Decide whether the performance is repeatable.
  • Adjust for opponent quality, injuries and matchup.
  • Then compare your number with the market.

Don’t chase last week’s winners. Chase this week’s value.

Thursday and Friday’s Football Betting Previews

Get ready for Week 4 of the NFL and Week 5 of College Football. It all starts on Thursday, with three college football games and one NFL game.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS AT CLEVELAND BROWNS

Thursday, Oct. 1 — 8:15 PM ET, Prime Video

Opening: Pittsburgh -2.5 | Total 37.5
Current: Pittsburgh  -3 | Total 38.5.

Last game — Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati 30-27. Aaron Rodgers had his best game of the season, finishing 19-of-34 for 292 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT. Jaylen Warren was also a major factor, rushing 17 times for 127 yards. Pittsburgh averaged about 7 yards per play, a major jump from its first two games.

Last game — Cleveland

Cleveland beat Carolina 21-18. Deshaun Watson finished 16-of-30 for 144 yards and 2 TDs, while also adding 45 rushing yards on 11 carries. Harold Fannin caught both TD passes. Cleveland was outgained 360-259, but the defense forced Carolina into 4-of-15 on third down and made the late stop.

QB matchup — Aaron Rodgers vs. Deshaun Watson

Watson through three games: 56-of-82, 68.3%, 587 yards, 5 TD, 1 INT, 104.1 rating, plus 105 rushing yards. His efficiency has been better than Cleveland’s overall scoring output suggests, but he has been sacked nine times.

Rodgers is coming off that 292-yard, three-TD game and has historically played well on Thursdays: 13-5-1 ATS in Thursday starts.

Offense vs. defense

The biggest Cleveland problem is the offensive line. C Elgton Jenkins and G Teven Jenkins are both OUT, forcing Luke Wypler into the lineup at center. That is a serious concern against a Pittsburgh pass rush featuring T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith.

Pittsburgh’s offense has the better matchup if Rodgers gets time. Cleveland’s defense has allowed five WR touchdowns, and Roman Wilson has drawn six targets in every game.

Key injuries

Pittsburgh: CB Joey Porter Jr. OUT, RB Rico Dowdle OUT, CB Jalen Ramsey QUESTIONABLE with a wrist injury, CB Brandin Echols QUESTIONABLE.

Cleveland: C Elgton Jenkins OUT, G Teven Jenkins OUT, WR Tylan Wallace OUT. CB Tyson Campbell, S Grant Delpit and OT Tytus Howard practiced fully Wednesday.

2025 matchup

Cleveland won the last meeting 13-6 at home.  PIttsburgh won the first meeting 23-9 at home.

ATS trends / angle

Cleveland is 7-17-2 ATS after a straight-up win since 2022 and 5-1 ATS last 6 overall.  They are 5-0 Under last 5 in Week 4.

THURSDAY, Oct. 1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL

WESTERN KENTUCKY AT NEW MEXICO STATE

8:00 PM ET

Current: New Mexico State -2.5 | Total 57.5.

Last game — WKU

Western Kentucky finally broke through with a 52-7 win over FCS Mercyhurst after opening with losses to Nevada, Georgia and Indiana. QB R. Tisdale Jr. was outstanding: 19-of-23 for 309 yards and 4 TDs.

Last game — NMSU

New Mexico State lost the rivalry game to New Mexico 42-18. The Aggies are now 1-3 and have yet to beat an FBS opponent.

Last year: Western Kentucky (-7.5) over NM State 35-15 at home.

QB matchup

WKU has used R. Tisdale Jr. and Brock Glenn. Tisdale clearly made a case to take more snaps after producing a 252.9 passer rating last week. Glenn struggled badly against Indiana, going 17-of-32 for 120 yards and an INT.

NMSU’s quarterback Trey Hedden is completing just 54.3% of his passes for 887 yards with five TDs and five INTs.

Offense vs. defense

In last year’s meeting WKU produced 429 total yards and 301 passing, while NMSU managed only 178 total yards.  NMSU will try and take advantage off a run defense that has allowed 220.5ypg. The problem is that the Aggies average just 135.8 rushing yards per game to rank 102nd.

Key injuries

WKU WR K. Hutchinson, TE G. Reimer and RB A. Boyd are questionable. NMSU RB R. Burton has also been dealing with an undisclosed injury.

ATS trends / angle

WKU is 7-3 ATS in its last 10.  Aggies are 6-1 Under last 7 Thursday games.

NORTH TEXAS AT TULSA

9:00 PM ET

Current: Tulsa -1.5 | Total 57.5.

Last game — North Texas

North Texas crushed FCS Houston Christian 63-14 after losing 49-35 at Texas State the week before. The Mean Green enter 2-2 but are 3-1 ATS and have gone Over in three of four.

Last game — Tulsa

Tulsa was hammered 34-6 at Arkansas, its first loss. Tulsa managed only 241 total yards and played without injured starting QB Baylor Hayes. Dexter Williams II threw for 176 yards but the offense never

QB matchup

Tulsa QB Baylor Hayes, who is miss the last game with a knee injury is expected to play. If Hayes returns, Tulsa becomes much more dangerous through the air. If not, Dexter Williams II likely handles the offense again.

North Texas QB Tayven Jackson completed 74.2% of his passes for 1,187 yards with 6 TDs and 2 INTs. Jackson is a UCF transfer, who threw for 2,151 yards last season for the Knights.

Offense vs. defense

North Texas wants pace and possessions. Tulsa wants the opposite.

Tulsa has played four straight Unders, and its defense has been excellent at home. North Texas has played three Overs in four. That clash of styles is probably more important than the raw season averages.

Key injuries

North Texas RB B. Haygood and WR J. Martin are questionable. Tulsa QB Baylor Hayes is questionable with the knee injury. However, he is expected to start.

ATS trends / angle

North Texas is 7-0 Over last 7 in October. Tulsa is 9-22-1 ATS last 32 conference games.

FRIDAY COLLEGE FOOTBALL

PITTSBURGH AT VIRGINIA TECH

7:00 PM ET, ESPN

Opening: Virginia Tech -5.5/53.5
Current: Virginia Tech -3 | Total 54.5

Last game — Pittsburgh

Pitt crushed FCS Bucknell behind a monster performance from Mason Heintschel, who threw for 403 yards and six touchdowns without an interception. He became the first ACC quarterback to throw six TD passes in multiple games in the same season.

Last Game — Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech survived a miserable-weather road game at Boston College 21-14.

The Hokies trailed 14-6 in the fourth quarter before scoring 15 unanswered points.

QB Ethan Grunkemeyer completed 22-of-25 passes for 147 yards and one touchdown. He directed a crucial 10-play, 80-yard fourth-quarter TD drive, hitting Marlion Jackson for a 14-yard touchdown before Jeffrey Overton Jr. ran in the two-point conversion.

Virginia Tech finished with 370 yards, including 223 rushing, despite playing in rain and winds reported around 39 mph.

QB matchup

Mason Heintschel vs. QB Ethan Grunkemeyer. Grunkenmeyer, a Penn State transfer who joined James Franklin in Blackburg, is completing 74.3% of his passes for 1,1012 yards with eight TDs and no picks. Jeffrey Overton ledas the Hokies with 409 yards and four TDs.

Heintschel enters 88-of-130 (67.7%) for 1,191 yards, 13 TD and just one INT. He ranks second in the ACC in TD passes and third at 297.8 passing yards per game.

That gives Pitt a real passing-game edge, but Lane Stadium is the toughest environment he’s faced.

Offense vs. defense

Both teams are elite against the run. Virginia Tech ranks around 14th nationally in rushing defense, while Pitt ranks fourth.

That puts even more pressure on the quarterbacks. Pitt’s advantage is Heintschel’s vertical passing and receiving depth; 13 different Panthers caught a pass last week.

Key Trends: VT is 5-1 Over last 6 home games. Pitt is 5-0 ATS last 5 in October.

LIBERTY AT DELAWARE

7:00 PM ET, CBS Sports Network

Opening: Liberty -6.5 | Total 50.5
Current: Liberty -7 | Total 50.0.

Last game — Liberty

Liberty beat Coastal Carolina 34-17 and has now won three straight after losing at James Madison. Liberty is averaging 30.5 points per game.

Last game — Delaware

Delaware was overwhelmed at Virginia  .

QB matchup

Liberty QB Deshawn Purdie has 779 passing yards through four games and gives Liberty the clear passing advantage.

Delaware starting QB Nick Minicucci was their starting QB and had solid stats with 838 yards passing (57.3%), 5 TDs and 3 INTs. However he was injured against Virginia and the Hens used Braden Streeter, who completed just 2 of 16 for 9 yards with two TDs.  Riley Trujillo is another option if they need him since Delaware is keeping it quiet on Minicucci’s injury.

Offense vs. defense

This is where Liberty’s advantage is clearest.

Advanced matchup data rates Liberty’s passing offense significantly above Delaware’s pass defense, while Liberty’s own defense ranks near the top nationally in completion percentage allowed.

Delaware needs to run the ball and avoid a game where Purdie gets 35+ possessions/throws in favorable field position.

2025 matchup

Liberty beat Delaware 59-30 at home. Liberty produced 561 yards: 282 rushing and 279 passing. Delaware had 420 yards but only 76 rushing.

Key injuries

No major Liberty QB injury currently listed. Delaware QB N. Minicucci (undis) is questionable.

Key Trends: Del is 5-0 ATS last 5 home games. Lib is 0-4 ATS last 4 conference games and 5-1 Over last 6 conference games.

PENN STATE AT NORTHWESTERN

8:00 PM ET, FOX

Opening: Penn State -3.5 | Total 47.5
Current: Penn State -2.5 | Total 45.

Last game — Penn State

Penn State suffered a brutal collapse against Wisconsin after leading 17-0, falling to 3-1. QB Rocco Becht struggled, and the offense became predictable late.

Last game — Northwestern

Northwestern went to No. 6 Indiana and lost only 29-23, easily covering as a 20.5-point underdog. Before that, Northwestern beat Colorado 41-7.

QB matchup — Rocco Becht vs. Aidan Chiles

Becht: 865 passing yards, 9 TD, 1 INT.
Chiles: 807 passing yards, 6 TD, 0 INT.  Becht is a Iowa State transfer, who joined Matt Campbell in his move to Happy Valley. Chiles is a transfer from Michigan State.

Offense vs. defense

Penn State averages 36.8 points per game and Northwestern 32.7. But Penn State’s defense is allowing only 11.5 points per game, compared with Northwestern’s 18.0.

Northwestern’s passing offense is the important matchup. If Chiles protects the ball and avoids Penn State’s pass rush, Northwestern can stay on the field.

Penn State wants to re-establish the run and keep Becht from having to rescue the offense on third-and-long.

2025 matchup

Northwestern pulled one of last season’s biggest upsets, winning 22-21 at Penn State as a 20.5-point underdog.

That result ultimately contributed to James Franklin’s departure to Virginia Tech.

Key injuries

Penn State WR Koby Howard is OUT. RB D. Sheffey and TE B. Kortovich are questionable; DL M. Granville is out for the season.

ATS trends / angle

Northwestern is on a 7-3 ATS run over its last 10 and is 12-2 Over last 14 conference games. PSU is 2-6 ATS last 8 in October.
