San Francisco is 3–0 at home. Washington is 0–2 in road games and also lost its neutral-site game in London.

Last game recap

Washington: Tied New York Giants 27–27, October 11. Jayden Daniels returned from his elbow injury with 199 passing yards, 103 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Washington surrendered a two-touchdown fourth-quarter advantage, then failed to get a potential winning field-goal attempt away when time expired after Daniels’ final overtime scramble. His mobility was encouraging; late-game execution remained a major problem.

San Francisco: Won at Seattle 32–29, October 11. The 49ers overcame an eight-point second-half deficit, benefiting from four takeaways and a defensive touchdown by Gracen Halton. Purdy helped deliver the late scoring possessions, and San Francisco’s defense finished with a fourth-down stop. It was an impressive road win, although turnovers supplied important short-field opportunities.

Quarterback matchup

 Season passingCompletion rateTD–INT
Jayden Daniels, WAS46 of 76, 459 yards in 3 appearances60.5%3–0
Brock Purdy, SF98 of 142, 1,196 yards in 5 starts69.0%13–2

Daniels’ season totals reflect his injury absence. Purdy has averaged 8.4 yards per attempt, giving San Francisco a substantial advantage in passing efficiency entering this matchup.

QB analysis: Daniels’ scrambling gives Washington its best opportunity to extend possessions and create explosive gains when the initial play breaks down. San Francisco must keep its rush disciplined. Purdy’s advantage is operating an offense that consistently creates manageable situations: the 49ers lead the league in third-down conversion rate and have allowed only three sacks. Washington ranks 29th in offensive third-down conversions.

The defensive split is particularly relevant: Washington has been considerably stronger against the run than the pass.

Key injuries and availability

Washington

  • RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt — OUT, groin. Washington loses its leading rusher. Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler are the principal alternatives, with their receiving ability offering useful outlets for Daniels.
  • QB Marcus Mariota — OUT, knee; DE Charles Omenihu — OUT, groin/ankle; OLB Javontae Jean-Baptiste — OUT, pectoral. The defensive absences reduce Washington’s edge rotation.
  • WR Stefon Diggs — QUESTIONABLE, hamstring. His availability would add an important receiving option.
  • DT Javon Kinlaw — QUESTIONABLE, ankle/knee; CB Trey Amos — QUESTIONABLE, ankle; safeties Nick Cross, Percy Butler and Tyler Owens — QUESTIONABLE. Amos also requires activation from his reserve list.
  • WR Terry McLaurin — no game designation after hamstring/rest management during the week
  • QB Jayden Daniels — full participation Thursday and Friday, listed with his left elbow injury.

San Francisco

  • WR Deebo Samuel Sr. — OUT, hamstring.
  • DE Nick Bosa — OUT, knee/calf. His absence removes a major individual pass-rushing threat against Daniels.
  • WR Mike Evans — QUESTIONABLE, ribs/Achilles; WR Christian Kirk — QUESTIONABLE, calf. These are important decisions for the passing matchup, especially with Samuel unavailable.
  • DL Mykel Williams — QUESTIONABLE, knee; DL Gracen Halton — QUESTIONABLE, quadriceps; CB Upton Stout — QUESTIONABLE, shoulder.
  • FB Kyle Juszczyk — available. Christian McCaffrey and LT Trent Williams returned to full participation after rest days. Final inactive lists arrive approximately 90 minutes before kickoff.

2025 meeting

The teams did not meet in 2025. Their most recent matchup was December 31, 2023, when San Francisco won 27–10 at Washington, covering -14; the game stayed Under 48.5.

Key ATS and totals trends

  • San Francisco: 4–1 ATS this season, including consecutive covers against Denver and Seattle.
  • Washington: 2–3 ATS, with consecutive noncovers against Indianapolis and the Giants.
  • Washington games: Over in four of five this season.

Matchup analysis

When Washington has the ball: The Commanders need productive early downs, quick completions and selective Daniels runs. With Croskey-Merritt unavailable, White and Ekeler’s involvement underneath could help Washington avoid obvious passing situations. Bosa’s absence helps, but San Francisco’s overall defensive efficiency still makes sustained drives difficult. Washington’s best route to staying inside the number is turning Daniels’ mobility into first downs while limiting stalled possessions.

When San Francisco has the ball: Purdy attacking Washington’s pass defense is the clearest statistical advantage. McCaffrey’s receiving work can also test coverage without forcing the 49ers to run repeatedly into Washington’s stronger defensive front. Evans’ availability matters because Samuel is already out. If both are unavailable, Washington has a better chance to concentrate coverage and force San Francisco to sustain longer drives.
