NBA Finals Game 3 Odds, Props and Preview
We’re at a crossroads in the NBA Finals in Game 3 from Madison Square Garden. Aside from high ticket prices and the appearance of President Trump, the storyline for this game is about San Antonio losing the first two games at home. That’s only happened two other times in the history of the NBA Finals. They are 0-2 in this series, BUT, they are just a 2.5-point underdog and a +110 money line as oddsmakers feel that the Spurs still have a chance against New York.
(odds from DraftKings)
Yet, if the Knicks win Game 3 at home, they’ll be headed to their first NBA title since 1973, considering no team has come back from 0-3 down in the NBA Playoffs. New York is -500 to win the NBA Finals, while the Spurs are currently +380.
New York has also won 13 straight postseason games and if they win Games 3 and 4, they would match the 2017 Golden State Warriors’ record of 15 straight.
On Friday night, the Knicks found a way to beat the Spurs 105-104, as Victor Wembanyama missed a mid-range jumper at the buzzer, which could have won the game. “Wemby” also turned the ball over in the previous possession with the game tied, fouling Jalen Brunson, who hit one of two free throws for the game winner.
San Antonio had a double-digit lead in Game 1, and fell apart, falling 105-95. The Knicks have done a great job (mainly Karl-Anthony Towns) on Wembanyama, who is shooting just 40.5% from the field (averaging 27.5 points) in the first two games. Another key factor for New York has been the play of Mikal Bridges, who is averaging 17.3 points over his last 10 games.
The Spurs shot just 36% from the field and 26% from 3-point range in the first game. They shot much better in the second game, making 47%/38% of their shots but turned the ball over 16 times. Stephon Castle has struggled in the first two games with six turnovers, while shooting 12 of 30 from the field and 3 of 9 from beyond the arc. Despite his late-game heroics, Brunson has struggled from the field, going 19 of 56 from the field and 4 of 17 from beyond the arc. In Game 2, he did have six assists and five steals.
