PHILADELPHIA EAGLES AT CHICAGO BEARS
Monday, September 28 — 8:15 PM ET, Soldier Field
TV: ESPN / ABC
Opening and Current Odds
The early/look-ahead market had Chicago -1.5 with a total around 46.5. With Caleb Williams ruled out, the market completely flipped.
Current: Philadelphia -4.5 | Total 41.5
LAST GAME RECAPS
Philadelphia
Philadelphia improved to 2-0 with a 24-20 road win over Tennessee.
Jalen Hurts finished 26-of-37 for 264 yards, 2 TD and 2 INT. The interceptions were costly—one was returned 92 yards and another helped Tennessee take a late 20-17 lead—but Hurts responded by directing a nine-play, 65-yard game-winning drive in the final two minutes and hit Darius Cooper for the winning touchdown with seconds remaining. DeVonta Smith caught 10 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.
Chicago
Chicago suffered a dramatic offensive falloff in a 9-3 home loss to Minnesota after scoring 59 points in Week 1 in a driving rainstorm.
The Vikings blitzed relentlessly, recorded four sacks and 10 QB hits, and forced two Chicago turnovers. The Bears scored only a 50-yard Cairo Santos field goal. Caleb Williams injured his right hamstring in the fourth quarter and did not return.
The contrast is striking: Chicago went from 59 points in Week 1 to three in Week 2.
QB MATCHUP
Philadelphia — Jalen Hurts
Through two games:
40-of-62 passing — 64.5%
340 intended/completed-air-yard profile through Week 2
5 passing TDs; 2 INTs
He has also continued to contribute as a runner and in short-yardage situations.
Hurts’ biggest positive is his performance under pressure. Tennessee intentionally tried to keep him in the pocket, and he still produced 264 passing yards and the game-winning drive.
Dallas Goedert being out removes one of Hurts’ most dependable middle-of-field options.
Chicago — Case Keenum or Tyson Bagent
Caleb Williams is officially OUT with the hamstring injury. He did not practice all week.
Tyson Bagent is Questionable after suffering a concussion against Minnesota. He returned to a full practice but still carries the designation. If Bagent doesn’t start, Case Keenum is expected to go.
That makes Chicago’s QB situation the single biggest variable.
Tyson Bagent
Bagent has mobility and experience in Ben Johnson’s offense, but Minnesota pressured him heavily late last week. His ability to handle Philadelphia’s front and get the ball out quickly would be critical.
Case Keenum
Keenum is a 14-year veteran and brings more experience diagnosing coverage, but he hasn’t started a regular-season game since 2023. Philadelphia would likely test him with disguised coverage and pressure immediately.
OFFENSE VS. DEFENSE
Philadelphia Offense vs. Chicago Defense
Philadelphia should probably lean more heavily on Hurts’ arm than it did early against Tennessee.
The Eagles’ running game has lacked efficiency, and they enter withoutDallas Goedert. Chicago’s defense was excellent against Minnesota, allowing only nine points in the rain with Carson Wentz at QB, and its young secondary played particularly well.
The most important matchup is Philadelphia’s offensive line versus Chicago’s defensive front.
If Philadelphia gets Saquon Barkley going early, Hurts will have much easier play-action opportunities. If the Bears force Philadelphia into third-and-8 repeatedly, the game could stay close.
Saquon Barkley
Barkley suffered a neck/shoulder stinger against Tennessee but practiced fully and is not listed as out, so he’s expected to play.
Chicago Offense vs. Philadelphia Defense
Last season, Chicago rushed for 281 yards in its 24-15 win at Philadelphia. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has openly emphasized that stopping Chicago’s ground attack has to be the priority Monday.
Expect Chicago to rely heavily on:
D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai
Philadelphia’s job is to force third-and-long and make Keenum win from the pocket.
If Chicago is gaining five or six yards on first down, the Bears can hide the quarterback issue. If Philadelphia consistently creates second-and-9, the matchup swings sharply.
KEY INJURIES
Philadelphia
OUT
- WR Marquise Brown — ankle
- TE Dallas Goedert — knee
- OT Fred Johnson — knee
QUESTIONABLE
- LB Jonathan Greenard — pectoral
Goedert is especially meaningful because he gives Hurts a safety valve between the numbers. Fred Johnson’s absence also reduces offensive-line depth.
Chicago
OUT
- QB Caleb Williams — hamstring
- DE Shemar Turner — knee
- LB Noah Sewell — Achilles
QUESTIONABLE
- QB Tyson Bagent — concussion
